GSM — grams per square meter — is the single most useful number on a towel label, and almost nobody explains it. Here's the short version.
400–500 GSM: the everyday workhorse
Lighter towels dry fast, wash easily and take up less space. If you do laundry often or live somewhere humid, this range keeps your bathroom fresh with zero effort.
500–700 GSM: the spa feeling
More yarn per inch means more softness against your skin and more water absorbed per pass. These towels feel indulgent, but they take longer to dry between uses — hang them well.
Our advice
Mix them. Keep a set of mid-weight towels in rotation for daily showers, and a plusher set for slow weekend mornings and guests. Whichever you choose, wash before first use and skip the fabric softener — it coats the fibers and quietly steals their absorbency.
